BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, PHILIPPINES - This past February 19, 2025, at the Clubhouse at The Palace, BGC, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), in partnership with Philippines Recorded Music Rights, Inc. (PRM), held the historic Official Philippines Chart Launch Party. The event was attended by the biggest stars and figures in the music industry, uniting everyone in their shared love and passion for the local scene.
The IFPI is an organization that represents the global voice of the recording industry and is responsible for promoting the economic value of sound-recorded music, protecting the intellectual property (IP) rights of music creators, partnering with collective management organizations (CMOs) around the world to strengthen the fight for proper music licensing, and conducting global data analysis of the music industry (global charts and certifications). In line with its goals of partnership and global data analysis, the IFPI partnered with PRM to stage the Launch Party and launch the weekly Official Philippines Chart alongside the Official Southeast Asian Chart, with the charts’ rankings based on streaming data gathered from major music streaming platforms, specifically Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Deezer. Given the nation’s growing market and the Filipino public’s rich love of music, the Philippines was chosen as the first country in the region to hold a launch party of its kind.

Given its importance to the industry, The Official Philippines Chart Launch Party was nothing short of a Grammys-like affair full with the red carpet and glambot treatment. The biggest artists and industry players came dressed to the 9s with their best all-white street glam outfits, ready to have fun and celebrate the music and acts they love so dear. After the initial red carpet portion of the evening, hosts JC Teves and Jelena Basilio kicked off the show in style, introducing the crowd to the event and the role the IFPI plays in the music industry. Afterward, attendees were treated to powerful live performances from PRM’s own Ryan Orias and Rau Supnet, Universal Records’ XYVRL, and Nior of GMA Music. Their performances were then followed by the program proper, with IFPI Senior Regional Market Analyst, Southeast Asia, Johnson Arul, giving a speech welcoming everyone to the Launch Party, explaining the charts, and encouraging everyone to enjoy the evening.

After a short video that went more in-depth into the mechanics of The Official Philippines Charts, the first awarding segment of the evening began, as Director IV of IPOPHL-BCRR, Atty. Emerson Cuyo, and IFPI’s Head of Licensing for Southeast Asia, Dhanesh Jagwani, awarded the first half of the Top 10 Most Streamed Local Songs of 2024, with each awardee being brought on stage to accept their award and have their picture taken. At number 10 was Arthur Nery’s “TAKE ALL THE LOVE” and Cup of Joe’s “Tingin” at number 9. Hev Abi was then awarded back-to-back-to-back for spots 8, 7, and 6 for “Alam Mo Ba Girl”, “Walang Alam”, and his role as a featured artist on gins&melodies’ “Babaero”. Deputy Director General of IPOPHL, Atty. Ann Claire Cabochan, and Vice President, Artist Relations & Business Development, Asia, at Sony Music Entertainment, Roslyn Pineda, took the stage to award the second half of the Top 10 Most Streamed Local Songs. After they took the stage, BINI then went back-to-back for the number 5 and 4 slots for “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin”. Dionela’s “Sining” featuring Jay-R then won 3rd place while “Dilaw” by Maki came in 2nd. Lastly, the Most Streamed Local Song of 2024 was awarded to TJ Monterde’s love anthem and smash-hit, “Palagi”. After giving a speech thanking all his fans and encouraging everyone to always give love a chance, TJ and his fellow awardees gathered on-stage for a historic group photo, representing the first batch of awardees under The Official Philippines Chart Launch. TJ then treated attendees to an especially intimate performance of his award-winning “Palagi” and “Darating Din”.

The second and final awarding portion of the night then began with the help of PRM’s Head of Licensing, Francis Buen, and IFPI Regional Market Analyst, Johnson Arul, who were present to award the spots 10 to 6 of the Top 10 Most Streamed Local Artists of 2024, with each awardee once again going on-stage to accept their plaque. Spots 10 and 9 went to rap superstars Flow G and Al James, respectively, while spots 8, 7, and 6 went to Maki, TJ Monterde, and Dionela. IFPI Regional Director of Southeast Asia, Simon Seow, and Director General of IPOPHL, Atty. Brigitte Da Costa-Villaluz, took the stage to present the spots 5 to 1 of the Top 10 Most Streamed Local Artists. Afterward, spots 5, 4, 3, and 2 were then respectively awarded to Arthur Nery, Cup of Joe, Ben&Ben, and Hev Abi. In the end, the title of Most Streamed Local Artist of 2024 went towas the Nation’s Girl Group, BINI. The group’s leader, BINI Jhoanna, then gave an inspiring speech celebrating the Philippine music industry as a whole and thanking the Blooms for all their support. One more historic group photo was taken with the most streamed local artists together on stage celebrating their monumental achievements. To officially cap off the awarding for the evening, similar to TJ, BINI graced the stage for a live performance of their latest single “Blink Twice”, much to the delight of everyone in attendance.

To end the program proper, General Manager of Sony Music Philippines and PRM Board Member, Roslyn Pineda, graced the stage to give her closing remarks, once again thanking everyone for their attendance, emphasizing the significance of the chart launch, and encouraging everyone to keep partying and mingle with one another. After her speech, SUYEN of PolyEast Records, Universal Music Group’s ONE CLICK STRAIGHT, and Sony’s dwta all consecutively took the stage to entertain attendees with their lively and head-bang-worthy sets. PRM Head of Licensing, Francis Buen, introduced the pivotal role PRM plays in the recognition of artists’ craft and efforts and, most especially, the spirit for the Philippine music industry the Launch Party aims to imbibe. He also acknowledged the key stakeholders present, specifically the participating labels and artists who were part of the vibrant celebration. He then brought everyone’s attention to watch the same-day-edit video done for the event, which was then followed by the after-party led by DJ Emcy Gray.
Overall, the event was a phenomenal success that properly celebrated the launch of the Official Philippines Chart and the great work done by the industry’s biggest artists over the past year. The launch of the Charts servesserve as the first time all awards are based on official data from global streaming music platforms, giving artists the proper recognition they deserve. In addition, the weekly charts will also provide artists and fans alike an accurate view into the music that captures the FiIlipino public every week. In a country that loves music as much as the Philippines, the launch of the Official Philippines Chart is proof of a booming music industry that will continue to grow and provide songs that will become the soundtrack of our lives.

As a collective management organization, PRM will continue to do its part in growing the music industry, not only through staging events like The Official Philippines Chart Launch Party, but also through protecting the IP rights of record labels and performers around the country, making sure they get the royalties and credits they deserve.
